What to put in your glass recycling bin

Black glass bins are collected every four weeks. This is for people who live in houses only.

If you live in a flat, you can recycle glass at your local recycling point or a tip

Simpler recycling

By 31 March 2026 everyone will have glass collections every two weeks. This applies to people who live in both flats and houses.

What you can recycle in your black bin

You can recycle glass bottles, including:

  • wine bottles
  • beer bottles
  • cooking oil bottles
  • other glass drink bottles

You can also recycle glass jars, including:

  • jam jars
  • chutney jars
  • baby food jars
  • cooking sauce jars
  • pickle jars  

If you want to recycle broken glass, it can be taken to a local recycling point or a tip

If in doubt, leave it out.

What not to include

Do not include:

  • glasses
  • mirrors and windows
  • crockery like cups, mugs and plates
  • pyrex dishes
  • spectacles
  • light bulbs
  • plant pots
