What can go in a brown garden waste bin

You can add

  • plants
  • flowers
  • vegetables and fruit waste
  • weeds
  • grass cuttings
  • hedge trimmings
  • leaves
  • small branches (up to four inches thick)

You cannot add

  • plastic bags
  • plastic pots
  • bricks, soil and rubble
  • animal waste and bedding
  • large tree branches
  • tree trunks
  • any other treated wood items

Make sure all your garden waste is contained within the bin and that the lid is closed, otherwise it may not be collected. 

Bin requirements

Make sure that you:

  • fill your brown bin with garden waste only
  • put your bin out by 6am on your next collection day, ensuring the handle side faces to the kerbside and the subscription permit label is clearly visible for our collection crew to see
  • take your bin back to your property boundary within 24 hours after collection

Only bins with valid subscription permit stickers will be collected.
